All of a sudden, my garden has grown to gargantuan levels and its bounty is covering my counter tops,
filling my (2) laundry baskets,
and is taking up my time to write, work, etc.
To date, we have stocked:
42 quarts of sweet corn
5 quarts and counting of zucchini (today's job)
1 jar of hot dried peppers ( = burning throat for 2 days from dehydrating)
22 pints of strawberry jam
and tonight: pickle-making with Joshy after the kiddos are fast asleep.
I am so thankful for what the good Lord has provided us this summer, and that I am able to be home to actually put things up - as my gramma D would say. It's amazing to me how much the grocery store takes out of our modest means these days, and with growing bodies in house, I am assuming the trips to the groc will grow as well. So! Despite the fact that many other things have been put on the back burner, the opportunity to plan ahead and fill our cupboards with summer's fare has been fantastic (:
I took in a few farmer's markets this week as well - I love to meet all of the interesting people who participate, and who attend, these little pseudo-community gatherings. I always feel part of a village when I set up with my pretties...but so far, so good. And it did give me the time to sit and make a few new pieces - all with fall in mind.
I am hopeful this weekend holds exactly what it is supposed to...I have the pull to go and sell my wares, but that means I am away from my family. I have prayed and prayed the same (basic, and probably annoying to my Maker) prayer: Please let me know what I should do!
And the answer remains: Be Momma. Stay Home. Keep the snacks and meals and little craft/activities coming.
If we can incorporate all squids going with this weekend, then we will. If not, then we will rest, relax and enjoy our time, and prepare for the 4 billion tomatoes turning red in our garden. (:
That's all for next week, of course!
happy weekend to you and yours (:
